Origami Workshops
In 2023 while continuing to develop Bizzi Art, I have gone out in public sharing my products to people with the love of origami. During the year I joined the Melbourne Origami Meetup, which is an association of over 500 members.
My love of origami and teaching has sparked from participating in these gatherings, which run periodically each month in different locations such as Brunswick and Ringwood.
After a couple of opportunities at some local markets, I’m very excited to host some of my own workshops with more like-minded people. My background has been working as an early childhood educator for the past 10 years so I’m well experienced with children.
This year in 2024, I have had great success with my first workshop, which was at the Croydon Library in April. During the school holidays they have lots of activities there, so the kids were fully involved and engaged in origami for about an hour, with lots of fun models to make!
My second workshop was a pop-up event, which was set up with the Main Street Croydon Traders Association. Here's some snippets of the day...
During March 2024, I've joined a store called Finesse Creations. They're hosting selling my art and products, along with other local artists. They have a growing selection of decor and it's a lovely space, so come check it out!
Finesse Creations is at 3/3-5 Hewish Rd, Croydon VIC 3136.
Hosting workshops at the store with my wares has been great, in a warm and welcoming store full of all kinds of things!
There's been great experiences working with other venues so far in 2024.
Springvale and Dandenong Library have had me host a couple of workshops. Working with varied age groups, including an inter-generational session with high school students and seniors, it was a great collaborative experience. Then with smaller groups in other sessions, with young children, teenagers, and adults alike.
During July 2024, I went to my first origami convention - Fold Fest Australia. This is an event which has been reinvigorated from a break during Covid, and approximately 100 people gathered for a weekend full of folding projects and so much more!
This was a two day event, held over a weekend, at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. There were international artists that came from America, Japan, and I loved every minute of it. It was an honor to be able to attend not only one, but two workshops with Tomoko Fuse, one of my inspirations in the origami community!
I made a reflection video of all the things I learned at this convention, take a look here if you like:
